San Francisco General Hospital

Gregory Grabowski facilitated partnering for the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Rebuild Project, creating a common set of goals, mission statement, project charter, and a culture of collaboration.

“Gregory Grabowski was engaged through Jacobs Project Management Co to facilitate partnering at the onset of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Rebuild Project. The project was set up in an IPD-like format with contractor, 6 core subcontractors, AE Team, DPW, DPH, UCSF, and Executive CM all engaged from the project’s onset. The Partnering facilitated by Gregory Grabowski created a common set of goals, and the team was empowered to collaborate in this critical trauma center for the Bay Area. Eight years later, the Project was completed on time, on budget, and without claims. Everyone attributes this success to establishing a collaborative partnership from the project’s onset – the Mission Statement developed in this session became a mantra for the Project.

Communications and partnering became an integral part of the success of this challenging $887.4M project erected on a constrained urban site within an existing Trauma center campus. The City & County of San Francisco now requires partnering for all major projects. Gregory Grabowski was instrumental in setting the collaborative tone for this successful Project. The Mission Statement established in our partnering session 8 years ago was clearly accomplished:

Mission Statement: “Working collaboratively, we commit to design and build the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center within budget, on schedule, and to the highest standards of quality and sustainability, for the benefit of the community.”
